Structured, progressive coaching that gives children real skills, real confidence and a genuine love for the game — from their first session onwards.
The LTA Mini Tennis system develops children through three progressive stages — each one building on the last, matched to their age and physical development.
The entry point. A smaller court, a low-compression red ball that barely bounces, and shorter rackets — designed so young children can actually rally from the very first session.
A longer court and a higher-bouncing orange ball introduces more real-game patterns. Children begin developing forehand and backhand consistency and understand how points are constructed.
Full-size court with a 75% compression green ball — the final bridge before standard tennis. Children develop all shots, learn serve construction, and begin matchplay in earnest.
Equipment is not a barrier. Joe supplies balls and nets, and rackets can be loaned for initial sessions — so you can try the programme before committing to any equipment purchase. Children from age 11 who are ready can move directly to full-court sessions regardless of their Mini Tennis history.
Tennis is one of the few sports that develops the whole child — not just athletic ability.
Learning a new skill — and seeing real progress — builds the kind of confidence that goes well beyond the court. Joe structures sessions so children achieve small wins from day one.
Tennis demands concentration, patience and emotional control. These qualities — developed through matchplay and structured drills — translate directly into academic and social life.
Unlike most team sports, tennis can be played from age 3 to 80+. Starting young gives children a lifelong recreational and competitive outlet that grows with them.
For children who want to compete, Joe's programme builds systematically toward LTA junior tournaments and Leeds club competition — with a clear pathway at every stage.
All junior sessions take place at well-maintained, accessible venues — always selected with parents and children in mind.
Meanwood Park is one of Joe's primary outdoor venues for junior coaching and group sessions. It combines quality tennis courts with open green space, food and refreshment areas, and full toilet facilities — making it an ideal environment for children's coaching, school holiday sessions, and private events.
Indoor sessions for the youngest children (Red Ball) are arranged at times and locations to meet demand — contact Joe to discuss the most suitable option for your child's age group.
Weekly coaching is just the start. Joe also runs school holiday tennis camps and organises private tennis experiences for birthdays, school groups and community events — all at Meanwood Park and other Leeds venues.
